Ingredients

  • 5 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste

Instructions

  1. Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water.
  2. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. While potatoes cook, heat cream, milk, and butter in a saucepan until butter melts.
  4. Sauté garlic in the butter mixture for 1 minute.
  5. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
  6. Pour the warm cream mixture over the potatoes.
  7. Mash with a potato masher or beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Serve hot.

  • For extra flavor, roast the garlic before mincing.
